DF65 Social Racing 2022 #5 (2/2/22)

17 sailors arrived ready to battle against strong winds! In the end it was A rig, possibly even A+. The course was set using the whole lake starting from the clubhouse, windward mark to port, spreader to port through the gate to the finish half way up the lake.

A good start was the key and full use of the subtle wind shifts. Mike read the conditions from the off to claim two firsts and a second. It took John B. these races to get into his stride and from then on dominated the racing Thanks to the RO Alan Watkinson for setting the course and giving us 9 races.

DF65 Social Racing 2022 #4 (26/1/22)

The 17 sailors who turned up this week were greeted by a light a fickle wind from a SSW/SW direction.  Race Officer Richard Walker aided by Neil and Peter set a course of a single windward/leeward lap using most of the lake length.  This typically gave at least one windward(ish) leg , although that could be in either direction.  Peter Baldwin set off with a good initial setup for the conditions, winning the first two races.  There were then different winners in the next four races with Richard Robinson, John Carlin, Neil Westbrook and Alan Watkinson all having their time at the front of the fleet.  Peter then managed wins in races seven and eight (2 laps) to take the overall win.  He was pushed to the very end by Richard Robinson in second and consistent Mike De St Paer in third.

Thanks to Richard for running the racing today, assisted by both the race leaders and latterly by Bernie at the finish. There were some very close and fast finishes as the wind often swung and increased to create a fast downwind finish for over half of the fleet.

After 8 races

RG/DF65 Winter Series 2021 #4 (22/1/21)

Overcast with a little drizzle in the air at times but the wind was straighter than forecast from the far end.
8 skippers entered the day with a mixture of rigs to begin with, but all ended up in their full height swing rigs by race 3.
A few skippers changed hulls after tea break, Martin swapping his Pocket Rocket for a borrowed Skinny giving him a well deserved win in race 7, Alan also swapped to his Scurry to see if he could improve. Dave Williams had a great second half to the racing and rounded it off with a well deserved win in race 9. The swapping of hulls to trial new things is something we do during club racing with everyone’s blessing and can only strengthen the fleet within the club, by trying out different design and rig combinations.
Race winners on the day were…Graham Elliott (Electronica) 5, Peter Baldwin (Uno) 1, John Brierley (Uno) 2, Martin Roberts (Scurry) 1 and Dave Williams (Uno) 1.

DF65 Social Racing 2022 #3 (19/1/22)

Sunny, windy and the wind straight down the lake, were the conditions that met sixteen sailors for the DF65 racing today. B rig was the rig of choice, but which at times was over powering in the gusts. RO for the day John Brierley set the course over the full length of the lake and the starting line was extremely competitive with many competitors wanting to get to the clubhouse bank first and gain an advantage. Alan Watkinson continued his form from Saturday, to run out the winner with Dave Williams close behind. Competition was keen for the other podium position, with John Carlin edging out Richard Robinson by the end.

IOM Winter Series 2021 #2 (15/1/22)

A bright afternoon with the wind from the clubhouse end, met the six competitors in the second IOM Winter series. Alan Watkinson started of strongly with a win and continued to show he had set a perfect trim.

Martin Roberts then got into his stride with 3 wins with the other competitors close behind in the variable but generally stable wind. Charles Legg was having problems with a borrowed boat leaking badly, his new K2 should solve that problem. Bill Culshaw and John Berry were also in the mix at times, then John Brierley managed two wins to round off the six races sailed before tea break. When the competitors came out for the afternoon session, there was – nothing. The wind had disappeared completely and RO Dave Williams after consulting the sailors called time on the days proceedings. Thanks go to Dave and Bernie along with Jack for running the afternoons racing.

DF65 Social Racing 2022 #2 (12/1/22)

18 sailors arrived expecting a decent wind, but it was not to be until the last few races. Malcolm our OD set us off on a course using all the marks on the lake which was interesting, but unfortunately took 30 mins to complete. In addition, during this race the wind direction unfortunately changed 180 degrees making it very difficult to identify positions on the finish line.

A series of short races followed, making it then possible to manage 9 races. Thanks again to Malcolm running the races under difficult conditions.
