DragonForce Autumn Series #1 2/10/19

Yet another extremely light wind day. This started off with tea and coffee while we waited for the promised wind to arrive.
We welcomed Sally back to sail after her long layoff due to injury, unfortunately she was only able to stay for a few races due to a prior arrangement.
Ernie set a shortened course at the top end of the lake and kept a sharp eye on the start line with a few boats being called over.  The racing was tight at the top with John and Kris sharing first and seconds throughout with Andrew and Neil managing a race win a piece.
10 races were held with eleven skippers taking part.

RG65/DF65 Race #5 28/9/19

A wet and windy day greeted competitors for the last RG65 series race.  Four Pocket Rockets and one DF65 sailed the same course this week with the wind coming out of the Top left hand corner. Seven races were completed by the tea break with everyone in B Rigs, when Neil had to leave early and then 3 more were sailed after tea in A Rigs to complete the day.

Racing was very close with Dave showing good speed to register 3 wins with John taking out the other races.  Alan with a new conventional A rig he has made, was also showing good speed on the race course.

With the 10 races completed an extended final race was held for a bit of fun, with the only DF 65 sailed by Andrew leading for most of the race only to be pipped at the post by the RG65 of John.

Thanks go again to Bernie and Jack for running the races on such a wet afternoon.

DragonForce Summer Series #13 25/09/19

Today was the last day of the Summer DF65 Series and had a record turnout of 13 sailors and a visitor from West Kirby tagging along at the back for practice.  The wind was straight down the pond from the WNW and even the sun came out to suggest that it was still summer.  With everyone in A+ rigs, getting off the start line cleanly was critical with this number of boats about and the close racing was clearly demonstrated with 5 different race winners during the ten races held.  After some congestion at the finish line in race 1, the course was extended by an additional 15 metres to try and spread the fleet out more.  This did help, but there was still some close finishes in many races.  John took the day with 4 wins, with Peter second and 2 wins, then Andrew finishing off the podium in third, also gaining two wins.  Our visitor from West Kirby enjoyed himself so much that he promised to join the club and also equip himself with an A+.  We look forward to seeing him on the water again.  Many thanks to Ernie for running the races again – his help was invaluable with so many boats sailing.

DragonForce Summer Series #12 18/09/19

Another Wednesday short of wind! 9 sailors raced at the start in very light airs but fortunately it increased in strength by the fifth race. Even though John won 5 races it was the consistent results of Kris that gave him the overall win.

DragonForce Summer Series #11 11/09/19

A small turn out for the weekly Wednesday DF65 race, due to sailors travelling (slowly!) to the upcoming RG65 Nationals and the UK National Cycle race trapping people in their homes! Nevertheless, 6 sailors arrived and were faced with the usual dilemma of A or B suits. The majority chose A and racing commenced under the watchful eye of the OOD Ernie.
After about 4 races the general consensus was to change down to B. The trying conditions unfortnately caused electrical failure on the boats of David H and Chris Weston and they had to retire early after 4 and 6 races respectively.
Close racing ensued between John, Andrew and Dave W, with the missing of any wind shift playing a good part in the results. John and Dave had equal points but after discards, John won with a 4 point margin.
10 races were sailed with thanks again to Ernie as OD.
  1.   John Brierley            11 pts
  2.   Dave Williams         15 pts
  3.   Andrew Peter           18 pts
  4.   Richard Walker       26 pts
  5.   Chris Weston            35 pts (6 races sailed)
  6.   David Halstead        58 pts (4 races sailed)
