DragonForce Autumn Series #1 2/10/19

Yet another extremely light wind day. This started off with tea and coffee while we waited for the promised wind to arrive.
We welcomed Sally back to sail after her long layoff due to injury, unfortunately she was only able to stay for a few races due to a prior arrangement.
Ernie set a shortened course at the top end of the lake and kept a sharp eye on the start line with a few boats being called over.  The racing was tight at the top with John and Kris sharing first and seconds throughout with Andrew and Neil managing a race win a piece.

RG65/DF65 Race #5 28/9/19

A wet and windy day greeted competitors for the last RG65 series race.  Four Pocket Rockets and one DF65 sailed the same course this week with the wind coming out of the Top left hand corner. Seven races were completed by the tea break with everyone in B Rigs, when Neil had to leave early and then 3 more were sailed after tea in A Rigs to complete the day.

Racing was very close with Dave showing good speed to register 3 wins with John taking out the other races.  Alan with a new conventional A rig he has made, was also showing good speed on the race course.

With the 10 races completed an extended final race was held for a bit of fun, with the only DF 65 sailed by Andrew leading for most of the race only to be pipped at the post by the RG65 of John.

Thanks go again to Bernie and Jack for running the races on such a wet afternoon.

DragonForce Summer Series #11 11/09/19

A small turn out for the weekly Wednesday DF65 race, due to sailors travelling (slowly!) to the upcoming RG65 Nationals and the UK National Cycle race trapping people in their homes! Nevertheless, 6 sailors arrived and were faced with the usual dilemma of A or B suits. The majority chose A and racing commenced under the watchful eye of the OOD Ernie.
After about 4 races the general consensus was to change down to B. The trying conditions unfortnately caused electrical failure on the boats of David H and Chris Weston and they had to retire early after 4 and 6 races respectively.
Close racing ensued between John, Andrew and Dave W, with the missing of any wind shift playing a good part in the results. John and Dave had equal points but after discards, John won with a 4 point margin.
10 races were sailed with thanks again to Ernie as OD.
  1.   John Brierley            11 pts
  2.   Dave Williams         15 pts
  3.   Andrew Peter           18 pts
  4.   Richard Walker       26 pts
  5.   Chris Weston            35 pts (6 races sailed)
  6.   David Halstead        58 pts (4 races sailed)

DragonForce Summer Series #10 4/09/19

A gusty Westerly breeze of 12 to 20 knots was blowing down the lake accompanied by the odd shower whilst the 7 sailors were rigging.  With the strength of the gusts and the forecast suggesting that these were only going to increase during racing everyone opted for a B Rig.  In the first three races, there were three different winners, With Peter, Alan and John all taking one each.  Following this though, the wins were shared between Peter and John, although John ended up with a total of 5 and Peter only four.  Peter however had a more consistent day counting only first and second places to end up the winner, whereas John had a few thirds which pushed him into second by one point, with Kris third.  Thanks must go once again to Ernie for running the racing for us today.

  1. Peter Baldwin             63            12 pts

RG65/DF65 Race #4 31/8/19

A torrential downpour greeted seven (six RG and one DF) sailors as they arrived or rigged their boats.  Thank goodness for the shelter of the clubhouse.  Fortunately the rain did not last for long and it was on a weather front that rapidly changed the wind from Southerly to Westerly within 45 minutes.  This enabled a good windward/leeward course to be set down the lake using the marks as set. With no additional competition arriving the one DF sailor decided not to sail and so left six RG65’s to start the day.

After the first four races, Peter and John Brierley shared the honours with two wins and two seconds each.  With the wind at 10 knots and gusting easily 15, both had opted for a low aspect A rig which helped in the gusty conditions.  After a short break and the arrival of Graham Elliott, John B managed two further wins, before John Tushingham found his groove and posted his first win in Race 7 and the two of them shared the wins through until Race 16, with Graham taking a number of seconds.  At the end of 16 races completed by 16:30, John B was the winner, John T second and Graham third. Three designs shared the podium, with rig selection and setup for the conditions in each race a determining factor on the end result. Thanks to Bernie and Ernie for running the races.
