DragonForce Summer Series #4 24/7/19

Another tricky day with the wind not doing the same as the forecast and switching direction several times during this mornings session.  There were 14 boats this week with most of the regulars (one of the highest turnouts recently) and another potential new member Dave who had travelled over an hour to sail with us and gain some guidance.  Peter took some of the early wins, but then had some difficult races including getting caught up on on mark for over a minute.  This left an opening for John who had the best of the later races from the 8 that were sailed.  In all there were 5 different race winners and John took the day by one point from Peter, who only beat Neil  to second on countback due to his higher number of firsts.

DragonForce Summer Series #3 17/7/19

A light and shifty SW breeze kept everyone on their toes this week.  Nine sailors completed 10 races with the last race being two laps. Dave Williams was unfortunate to lose power and miss the last two races otherwise he may well have placed higher.

DragonForce Summer Series #2 10/7/19

The very light variable wind from the Club house end caused the 10 sailors to watch their boats very carefully to be able to gain an advantage. Masters of the conditions today were Neil and Kris who managed 5 wins between them but the ever consistent John took the day.
The highlight of the day was for Chris Weston who completed the 10 races without gear failure.
Thanks to Ernie and Sally for their assistance in running the races.

DragonForce Summer Series #1 3/7/19

A light but reasonably steady wind  from the WNW and clear sun greeted the 8 sailors who turned out this week to sail in A+ rigs.  There were some large shifts to be found on the long course, which usually held for some time giving good gains if you timed it right.  Neil Westbrook started the day with a win and then two further wins in races 3 and 5.  Peter Baldwin won 6 out of the 7 other races sailed giving him first overall, with Dave Williams gaining the other win.  Although missing out on a race win, Richard Walker had a consistent day scoring several 2nds and thirds to end up third behind Neil and Peter. Racing was very close in most race, such that if you went into irons you could move from being well placed to last position.

  2.   Neil Westbrook         03           18pts

DragonForce Spring Series #13 26/6/19

  1. A light breeze from the clubhouse greeted sailors this week with shifts that seem to grow larger as the morning went on as the breeze dropped in strength.  Key to success was finding the breeze (and having a bit of luck) to keep your boat moving as much as possible.  John Brierley, Neil Westbrook and Peter Baldwin were all vying for the lead in most races, with each sharing 3 wins apiece at the end.  Dave Williams was the other winner of the 10 races completed. When the scores were added up, Peter was first on  14pts, John second on 16 pts and Neil third on 18 pts.

Thanks again go to Ernie for acting as Race Officer for the morning.

RG65/DF65 Race #2 22/6/19

Sunny conditions, wind from the clubhouse end and a fair degree of shiftiness in that wind , met the competitors for the RG/DF day at Birkenhead on Saturday.
5 RG65s and 3 DF65s started at 1100 with the DFs starting one minute ahead of the RGs with this format ensuring all the boats finishing together.
With 7 races before lunch, the racing was very close and a  battle in the RGs between Graham Elliott and John Brierley developed with Graham leading at the break.Neil Westbrook, Dave Williams and Alan Watkinson were also swapping places constantly showing how competitive all of these boats are.
The DFs were also having close racing and a welcome return to Birkenhead of Roger Lincoln showing he had not lost any knowledge of the lake. Peter Baldwin and Andrew Peters were also having their moments in the shifting conditions that prevailed all day.
After lunch both fleets were reduced as both Graham and Peter had to withdraw due to family commitments and the remaining fleet had 6 more races.
Thanks as usual go to Bernie and Jack for running the days racing and making drinks for everyone at break times.
12 races sailed.
