Our Sailing Secretary Paul Plested is currently competing in the DF95 Global Championships 2026 being held at Theeswater Reservoir in South Africa. Although currently Springtime, the weather is not very spring like other than early morning, where, for the last couple of days it has been sunny and bright to start with but without the essential wind. Today (Tuesday, Day 3), there was a long 60 minute delay to racing whilst the breeze settled and built. From only 3 knots at 10:20 it built to 18knots by the start of the first race at 11:20. Rig selection and setup has become critical as the average breeze goes up and down by 5+ knots and so changing by a whole rig or more in the gusts.
Paul is currently in Silver with a plan for the event to complete Races 11 and 12 today in the SHRS racing system with 4 heats. A lay Day is still planned for tomorrow, when there are forecasts of even stronger winds.
